Leveraging and Embracing Flexwork

It’s 2022. The pandemic threat is dwindling, and businesses are hoping for an economic recovery. This means that the companies that have shifted their working setup to one that is more flexible are about to face a critical decision as to whether they start anew, continue, or stop.

Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, businesses have learned to value and prioritize employee experience, and many have grabbed this opportunity to finally do their employees right. The flexible work arrangements have been put in the spotlight, and they are seemingly meant to stay. A research study by a group of companies, namely, Box, Palo Alto Networks, Splunk, Uber and Zoom showed 75% of their employees in total indicated they would prefer to continue to work remotely at least occasionally. It all makes sense as Zoom’s study of their online account executives showed an increase in cases and calls, while Microsoft found employees had more “meaningful meetings.” This demand and this shift called for a new term: Flexwork.

Flexwork is an organizational effort and strategy by businesses to promote and cultivate an employee-centric way of working by differentiating it from a standard workweek. It highlights and puts importance to the employees’ overall well-being, and plays a big role in fostering sustainable benefits not only for the employees individually but for the company and its customers or stakeholders collectively.

When Flexwork is implemented successfully in all touchpoints, milestones, and communications, but in a way that still encourages employees to be productive in the workplace, Flexwork has more potential to improve people’s lives.
