Education as a crucial step: Mind Over Matter Webinar a Success

The recently concluded webinar of Bnfts.ph entitled 'Mind Over Matter: Thriving Amidst a Pandemic' was a major success. Over 350 participants attended representing a wide variety of industries including the education sector, health sector, government, non-government organizations, SMEs as well as the country's largest corporations. The webinar aimed to inform and educate the participants on some considerations to ensure a holistic approach to wellness including care for mental health. It was led by PhilInsure Ortigas' Vice President for Business Development, Mr. Julian Sese, as well as Executive Director for PhilInsure Ortigas Ms. Gigi Alcasid. The discussion was moderated and hosted by Vice President for Strategy and Development, Ms. Miren Sanchez. Check out some highlights below.

The first guest, Dr. Nolet Ferreol, president of Health United Global Solutions, in his message entitled 'The (Lifestyle) Choices We Make', spoke on overall health as a journey that every one of us must endeavor to take and the difficult choices we need to take in order to ensure that we get to optimum health despite the realities around us. He shared that it is no longer about the question of 'do I want to be healthy?' but the focus should be on the actions that people take in order to achieve the level of health they aspire to achieve. One of the steps he emphasized is using data and technology to track our health and overall wellbeing - giving back the power to every single person to really control their overall health. In this regard, he shared how his company Health United Global Solutions Inc. (HUGS) helps HR leaders keep a close eye on the health of their employees and the organization by using an integrated health services app called iDoc that monitors the overall health of a particular workforce and connects it to a fully integrated clinic to be available for employees any time they need it including a superb telehealth service.

Following Doc Nolet was Mr. Patrick 'Papo' Ong Ante who is one of only two psychologists in the Philippines who have been granted the distinction of being an International Diplomate on Cognitive Behavior Therapy by the credentialing body, Academy of Cognitive-Behavioral Therapies, and the founder of Solace Center. Mr. Ong Ante spoke on the impact of COVID19 on the mental health of Filipinos and the importance of creating programs in organizations to help employees cope with the pandemic and still be productive members of the workforce. He emphasized what Doc Nolet shared on the importance of approaching mental health, not as a separate,  disjointed element but instead should be approached in a holistic, integrated manner. He also shared with the participants the building blocks of mental health as well as the different interventions that the community and organization can take to create a holistic focus on mental health and ultimately overall wellbeing.

Lastly, we got an esteemed HR professional in Ms. Marie Ampeloquio, President of e-BI Solutions, to give her reaction and insight on the discussion that Doc Nolet and Papo and gave. She noted that the technological advancements available in health management, like that of HUGS, give no excuse for HR leaders to really create a program that focuses on the health of their employees. She also challenged fellow HR leaders to focus on the data that these platforms provide just as they would focus on financial metrics and implored the leaders in attendance to make an analytical correlation with absenteeism, productivity, and other financial linkages. Ms. Ampeloquio also shared that the amount of company resource that's allocated to mental health truly shows how much an employer cares for their employees - how much they feel involved in the wellness of their employees. She mentioned that she is hopeful about where the country is headed in terms of the focus of partners like Bnfts.ph put on mental health and the technological advances and services available for companies to really care for their people.
